Richard Meyer sitting in Artforum's studio for the February 2025 episode of "Under the Cover".

This past October marked the close of “Andy Warhol: Velvet Rage and Beauty”—an exhibition at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin that was devoted to the artists’s queer aesthetics and subversiveness. In this episode of “Under the Cover,” Warhol scholar Richard Meyer, the Robert and Ruth Halperin Professor in Art History at Stanford University, discusses the essay he wrote about the show for Artforum’s February issue. Meyer speaks with Senior Editor Alex Jovanovich about the “queer” curatorial vision of organizers Klaus Biesenbach and Lisa Botti, Warhol’s polymorphous perversity, and the artwork that he didn’t expect to appear on the issue’s cover.
