At the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, the Canadian filmmaker, writer, photographer, and artist Bruce LaBruce premiered his latest film, The Visitor, an epic reimagining and pornification of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s 1968 classic Teorema. To mark the occasion, Artforum.com senior editor Travis Jeppesen sat down with LaBruce in Berlin. Together, they discuss LaBruce’s earliest films, influences, and the relationship between politics and porn.
In the March 2024 issue of Artforum, LaBruce contributes a Top Ten which includes Native American artist Nizhonniya Luxi Austin’s acting debut as Cara Durand in The Curse (2023–24); a call to free Palestine; plucky London-based publishing house Baron Books; Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude (“Probably my favorite living auteur,” writes LaBruce), and more.
