Artforum’s newest video series, “Under the Influence,” invites the most significant artists of today to discuss the ideas, events, works, and people that have been crucial to their development. For the second episode, we talk to artist Glenn Ligon, who reflects on learning from David Hammons, his earliest memories of artmaking, and the influence that New York’s Studio Museum in Harlem continues to have on his practice. “All over the Place,” Ligon’s current survey at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, England, runs through March 2, 2025. Glenn Ligon: Distinguishing Piss from Rain; Writings and Interviews (Hauser & Wirth Publishers) is out now.
